  1. The greatest part of Karelian Republic inside the Russian Federation has been made with largest territories subtracted to Finland in the year 1944. Afterwards the Soviets expelled 420,000 Finno-Ugric populations living there since 8,000 years, cutted any connection with Finland (all railways and roads, except Leningrad/St. Peterburg-Vyborg/Viipuri-Helsinki) and left almost all abandoned.
The nature in Karelia is wonderful, put the population is in decline and many villages seem like on the movie "The Day After".
